To Livadi pou dakryzei/Ağlayan Çayır'dan

Last night I dreamed that we set off together
to find the source of the river.
An old man led the way.
As we walked on,the river became smaller
and broke up into a thousand small streams.
Suddenly, high above
under the snow-capped peaks the old man showed us
a piece of land with wild grass in a shady and damp place.
Every blade of grass held little drops of dew
that fell every so often on the soft earth.
“This meadow,” said the old man, “is the source of the river.”
You reached out and touched the wet grass.
When you raised your hand a few drops rolled down
and fell on the earth like tears.
